Grow ops are ruining our houses!

It can't be that difficult to tell if someone in your community is using their house as a marijuana grow operation. For one - they can't really live there! The heat and the smell alone would make it difficult to live there.
I just read an article about a big bust in Burlington (Long Drive). Where they removed $70k worth of marijuana. Not suprisingly, the guy they arrested also had a gun.
Grow ups produce a mold that gets into the dry wall, the insulation, etc. it can cost 10's of thousands to fix - or even more.

I agree that people can be more vigilant, but I don't agree about living in a grow house. I think people live in the houses, so it is hard to tell. One way to tell is their hydro bill (in placed where it isn't shared ona block, or equal billing. These places use a lot of hydro. but it can't be safe to live in the house, because of the mold spores produced by the process - very bad for your health :(

Like the USA cocaine situation, the real root is Americans liking cocaine, as long as people want to smoke pot, there will be others who want to supply it. We have learned that even with medical marijuana, the government supplied pot is apparently so bad (not good)that those who really need it are forced to check the streets. Seems like a problem that everyone contributes to. Grow-ops are a symptom of disfunction.

Make it legal and the grow ops will disappear like magic. Tax it and get someone who knows how to grow it working for the government controlled farms. Sell it through the LCBO or pharmacies. Everyone profits.

You can test for this in any house. And you should look for ANY kind of mold problem in a property in a house before you buy it. Especially homes with baseboard heating and no forced air - they are the worst. But the hydro companies should be able to pin point anomalies in hydro useage (since grow ops use so much wattage). They can and should be proactive in helping the authorities.
